Talk:Google Map Parameters

does work without an s= parameter (verified 25 Mar 2009) Wes Groleau

Idea for talk pages

If H4 (four =) is used for topics instead of bold, long pages will have a table of contents. But please not for additions to one topic! However, if the topic ends in '=' you need a space after.

geocode=

Another mystery one, I am guessing something similar (or a replacement for?) latlng. Please add information if you have it!

POI markers

Does anyone know of parameters to control the display of point-of-interest (POI) markers and the related information windows (bubbles)? In my experience with IE6 and firefox, the POI marker and information window are visible by default. Are there any parameters to control visibility and marker style?

There are no POI markers per se, any POI data is currently put into the map tile images and are not controllable by the user (as far as I know). Yellowbkpk 10:49, 31 December 2006 (PST)

It doesn't look like it's currently possible.

Am I right to assume that it is equally not possible to control the display of those bus stop icons (e.g. in http://www.google.de/maps?&ll=55.951074,-3.19773&z=16)? gm 17 October 2007

I wanted a map of all the locations of a non-profit medical group. http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Parkview+Health,+Indiana shows most of them. When I grab the iframe code for embedding (from the 'link' link), the big markers remain, but the little red dot markers go away.

  • Is there a parameter to keep them?
  • Why are some little dots and some big flags?
  • Is there a way to add a missing dot or flag without losing the others?
  • Is there a way to make all of them little dots so they don't hide each other?
The big markers refer to the list on the left. Search results that don't appear there only have dots.

Parameter dq

I see that there is a parameter dq that is not detailed on this page. Does anyone know what it is for? Destination Query? I removed it and didn't notice any change. Here is a sample link with the dq parameter: http://maps.google.com/maps?daddr=17750+Lasselle+St,+Moreno+Valley,+CA+92551+(Rancho+Verde+High+School)+%4033.866668,-117.209810&saddr=21675+Martin+St,+Perris,+CA+92570&f=d&hl=en&dq=rancho+verde+high+school+loc:+21675+Martin+St,+Perris,+CA+92570&cid=33866668,-117209810,15862990330404843307&layer=&ie=UTF8&z=14&om=1

The dq parameter remembers the query that you previously used. In this case you performed a business search for:

       rancho verde high school
near 21675 Martin St, Perris, CA 92570

That produced a green arrow at the address and a couple of business markers. You clicked on the one that has Google's internal Company ID = 15862990330404843307 and used the "To Here" option within that info window to generate directions.

That information doesn't seem to currently be used for anything.

Hide left panel (search results & my maps)

Hello,

Is there a parameter to hide the left panel? like having the map window maximized?

Thank you in advance

Is there a way to display the map in full screen map (like using the << button) ?

from this command:

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=+37.427689,-105.435516&view=map&z=9

which is the required parameter ?

thanks

MRSP Possible answer

I might be wrong as I haven't got the time to fully test but I believe that MRSP has some relevance to address snapping. When using directions the daddr it doesn't always work so enter the latitude and longitude and then enter mrsp=1 and (from when I was briefly testing) it will use the nearest road to that latitude and longitude.

I came to the same conclusion independently, and added it to the page. It might need some adjusting if there are standard ways to display the information that I wasn't aware of.

How can I get a link to another map to open in the same tab/window?

The map I've been working on has links to several other maps within it. This shouldn't be too much of a problem for most people looking at them, but if anyone happens to browse through the maps they'll end up with a plethora of tabs. This could be a problem for people with older computers, too, since older browsers will open in new windows, not tabs. I'm not sure how to solve this. Is there a way to get new maps to open in the same window/tab?

Google official statement on which parameters are safe to use?

Does Google have any official opinion about its parameters, or are we just left to reverse engineer them and post them here, and hope none are on Google's secret list of which ones are about to be continued, vs. which ones have their official guarantee that they aren't scheduled to break soon?
